Fr. Johnson's Italian Sauce For Spaghetti Recipe


Recipe Ingredients

2-3 strips bacon, chopped
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/2 lb. hamburger
1 sm. can tomato paste
4 1/2 cans water (measure by paste can)
4 tbsp. olive oil
2-3 tbsp. dried parsley
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper



Cooking Directions

Brown bacon and onion in oil; add meat, parsley and garlic; cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Before browning onions, place tomato paste and water in a separate pan and bring to a boil; then, as it simmers for about 15 minutes, skim off foam.
Add meat mixture to tomato sauce, mix and add seasonings. Simmer for 1 hour, stirring often. NOTE: Olive oil will rise to top, but do not skim off.
