Gingered Pork Pie In A Flaky Crust Recipe


Recipe Ingredients

1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. vegetable shortening, frozen
1/4 c. ice water
1 egg, slightly beaten with 2 tbsp. water for a glaze



Cooking Directions

Place flour, salt and shortening in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Sprinkle water into the feed tube and continue processing until the dough forms a single ball on the blade. Remove the dough and roll out on a floured surface to the desired size and shape.
Cut out circles of the dough and spoon pork mixture onto one half of each circle. Bring opposite side over to seal. Pinch edges together and brush with the egg wash.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Bake pies on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 30 minutes or until pastry is golden brown. Serves 4.
